Holiday shopping for the kids used to mean bikes, skateboards and bats. Sometimes Santa threw a book and some underwear in for good measure. But these days it is unlikely that there is a Christmas or Hannakuh wish-list in the country that doesn’t have some sort of robot or hand held device on it right? Here are some of my favorite tech picks. These are gifts that I have either been lucky enough to witness Santa gift, so we have them in our house, or have tried out in stores.
If you haven’t seen Anki Drive you must. go. now. This is such a cool toy. Our kids lucked out and got it because mommy saw it this summer at the Apple Store and bought it for herself. It’s the classic speed-racer game but with cars controlled via i-phone apps. These cars move fast and you can play one man or against an opponent. Addictive and fun and there are lots of add ons if you want to race with more than two people or use fancier cars. But the starter kit is more than awesome.
Another standout is Sphero. This is my middle son’s favorite toy. He actually brought this toy to school on “talent day,” and showed his class how he could roll his robot around. (Of course he forgot the robot so mommy made a few trips to school that day, but it’s all good).
